Although it’s yet to be confirmed by the company, it looks like Skype is preparing to change the way its service is offered, potentially opening up a huge enterprise market for itself.

So far, Skype’s 124 million monthly users have had to make and receive VoIP calls using client software installed onto their computing platform. But with competitors like Google Voice being integrated inside web-based email services (Gmail), Skype had to make a comparable offering. Now it appears that Skype is preparing to make its service available through web-based applications that could potentially reside anywhere on the Internet. Imagine a Skype application inside Facebook or LinkedIn and the revenue share opportunities that might bring!

The future of VoIP is not in doubt. It’s about time that Skype helped shape the next stage of its development.
